The East Greenwich Criminal Investigations Unit is responsible to investigate all crimes and offenses that occur with in the Township of East Greenwich. Detectives are specially trained to handle every aspect of an investigation, from crime scene processing including forensic investigative techniques to evidence collection, interviews, warrants and the presentation of the case at court. The Detectives assigned to this unit conducts follow-up investigations of criminal matter on property and person crimes. The Detectives assigned also initiate criminal investigations through the use of informants and other investigative tools. These investigations include but are not limited to Homicides Sexual Assaults Armed Robbery, Arson, Aggravated Assaults, Domestic Violence and others. Other responsibilities are the supervision of Crimes Scenes, and the collection and maintenance of all evidence related to these crimes and offenses as well obtaining and executing search warrants. The CIU Detectives also does background investigations on Firearm Applicants as well as on all Township employees. All of the Megan’s Law record keeping are also maintained through the unit. Many Investigations require working in cooperation with The FBI, Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, and the New Jersey State Police and other local municipalities just to name a few. One goal of the Criminal Investigations Unit is to gather intelligence on current crime trends in our area and pass this information along to patrol officers, citizens, and local merchants so that precautions may be taken to avoid becoming a victim of these crimes. If a crime is committed in East Greenwich Township, successful investigations lead to the arrest and prosecution of the individual who committed the crime. The detectives encourage residents to report any suspicious activity to police communications. Many investigations are initiated as well as solved through this type of cooperative effort. Detectives are typically available Monday through Friday from early morning through the evening hours. At all other times, detectives are available through an “on-call” status to respond as needed.
