Firearms purchases are governed by New Jersey State Law under Chapter 58 of the 2C Criminal Justice Code. To purchase any type of firearm in New Jersey, a person must possess a firearms identification card (FID card). To specifically purchase a handgun, a person must also possess a Permit to Purchase a Handgun (PPH). As of February 2019 applications for firearms-related matters will be done online through the New Jersey State Police website. This New Jersey State Police website is called the Firearms Application and Registration System (FARS). You MUST appear at the East Greenwich Police Department to pay for your initial Firearms Identification Card, Pistol Purchase Permits, and Permit to Carry immediately upon applying.

FIREARMS PROCEDURES

East Greenwich Township residents who are looking to obtain a firearm purchaser ID card, permit to purchase a handgun, or apply for a permit to carry can find the information at the designated links. Please be advised that our department has had an influx in applications and the processing time has increased. We will complete your applications as soon as possible. You may be contacted periodically throughout the process electronically or by phone, and will receive an email once your application has been completed and approved.
